APAC region has fastest growth in international passengers in 2022

The world is opening up, and one region grew fastest in international passengers.

Simpleflying.com, a leading independent aviation news and insight platform, reported that based on the data from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), the APAC region saw 13.4 million international passengers in November 2022. This was about 7 times more than the 1.8 million international passengers that flew in November 2021.

The APAC region also led the way with the highest year-on-year growth in international passenger numbers from November 2021 to November 2022 compared to other regions worldwide. It led with 373.9% growth, followed by the Middle East with 84.6% growth.

This optimism is likely to continue in 2023, mostly thanks to the reopening of China’s borders which can give a major boost to the APAC region’s airlines. Many carriers have increased their flying schedules to China to capitalise on this long overdue reopening of borders.

Countries such as Thailand have already received their first Chinese tourists, with many applauding the return of passengers from the country’s largest inbound tourism market.
