04 Aug Investment in Europe – 2021 Record of $59 Bil USD

It is true – Europe raised an unprecedented $59 Bil USD in venture funds for the first half of 2021.

According to Crunchbase, European startups captured 20% of global capital, a jump from 13-14% in 2019. These fundings are majority in the Tech space.

The largest share of funding was invested in late-stage ventures (Series C and beyond) which accounted for $41.4 Bil USD of the total $59 Bil USD. This is an over 300% year over year increase for Europe.

All other funding stages were up year over year as well, with early-stage funding up 96% and seed capital up 66%.

Along with the record-level funding, larger amounts have been invested outside of the top three markets (UK, Germany & France). New to raising billion-dollar funding in a quarter per Crunchbase data, are Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland and Turkey.

Europe is reported to be ‘truly at an inflection point’ and while the European Tech ecosystem has been already maturing, this is an ‘unprecedented pace of lightening-quick growth and development’.
