Which country was Europe’s largest share trading hub in January 2021? Hint: It’s not London.
Amsterdam emerged as Europe’s largest share trading centre in January 2021, dislodging London from its historic position.
According to Bloomberg, this is as the Netherlands scooped up business lost by the UK after Brexit – An average of EUR 9.2 Bil shares were traded a day, a 4-times increase from December. In contrast, London’s daily volumes averaged at EUR 8.6 Bil.
There is a possibility that London may gain an edge in February, however it is still expected that its average volumes will still be well below historic levels for London.
